1. Start a new experiment on the data collection system

2. Connect the redtide to the computer/data system

3. Calibrate the spectrophotometer on the GLX system

4. Put about 20 mL of the crystal violet solution, NaOH, and distilled water in separate 50 mL beakers labeled.

5. Cover the NaOH with a watch glass

6. Label the syringes for each of the separate solutions as to not alter concentration

7. Fill the three syringes with the volume of liquids specified in Table 5, for each trial (3)

8. Perform the experiment for each trial by doing the following:

- deliver the water and sodium hydroxide solutions from the syringes into a clean cuvette

-start data recording

-quickly add the crystal violet solution to the cuvette, close it, mix it well, wipe dry, and insert into the redtide machine

-start data recording and continue to take readings until the absorbance drops below 0.1

-stop data recording and clean the cuvette

-repeat the same steps for each trial

-save experiment, print graph/transfer data from the GLX to the computer
