Procedure:

1. Start a new experiment on the data collection system

2. Connect stainless steel temperature sensor and pressure sensor to the collection system

3. Place barbed connector tightly into the rubber stopper and connect to the pressure port of the sensor with a tubing piece

4. Wrap erlenmeyer flask with about 13 rounds of electrical tape in case the flask craacks so the pieces are kept together

5. Mount the 250 mL flask in a water bath in a 1500 mL beaker, and the water should cover as much of the flask as possible

6. place the temperature sensor in the water bath

7. Repeat 3 times-

-measure about 0.165 g of the unknown metal to the nearest milligram and record the mass of the sample

-measure 20 mL of 3.0 M HCl solution and transfer it into the 250 mL flask

-start data recording and record the initial pressure and drop the measured unknown metal piece into the flask and insert the rubber stopper

8. Continue monitoring pressure and then stop the data recording after recording the data

9. Remove the stopper and repeat the experiment 3 times

10. Measure the volume of the water in the flask filled to the top after inserting the stopper to obtain the volume of the flask.
