Introduction

The purpose of this lab is to identify the cations that are present in the given solution. To do this qualitative analysis is used to identify the substances in the mixture where chemical properties of the unknown substance are figured out by adding  the unknown substance to some reagents. Then if a reaction occurs that is known to happen when specific ions are in a solution, then the substance can be identified. In this lab, the group was given solution 2 to identify which cations were present. After each procedure, the group referred the given flow chart to determine which ions could be present and which ones could be ruled out.
