 Conclusion

The purpose of this lab was to determine why solutions have different colors. To determine this, the red tide device was used to see what kind of photons the solutions absorbed. The colors that the solution does not absorb are trasmitted and are the colors that are seen. That is why different solutions display different colors due to what photons they absorb and transmit. In this lab, a lot of the lab groups did not get the best results, so the class collaborated and compared data at the end of the lab. Some sources of error that could have occured are that the cuvettes were not cleaned thoroughly, or of the cuvettes had any liquid on the outside of them when put into the spectrometer. To improve this lab, the red tide machines and data collection machines should be checked to see if they are working properly. A lot of the groups were having problems with the devices.
