Driving Question: How can you identify the cations present in a mixture of solutions?
The purpose of this lab is to identify the substances present in a mixture. A qualitative analysis is procedure is used for this lab. In the qualitative analysis procedure, chemical properties of an unknown substance are determined by systematically reacting the unknown with a number of different reagents. Reactions will occur if there is a specific ion present in the unknown substance. The unknown solution 2 is given with 2 to 4 unknown cations in this lab. After each procedure, the flowchart, that was given, is used to find which ions were present.
