Conclusion:

Putting all findings together, it is difficult to determine which treatment is the most efficient. Salt is plentiful and cheap but is also very corrosive and harmful to the environment to use it. Sand is cheaper than the salt is and is even more plentiful. Sand can also be used at lower temperatures than salt can. Magnesium chloride is most commonly used these days for winter road treatments, but it is very corrosive. Although this can be prevented by washing it off after driving through the roads, another important downside is how expensive it is. All are effective and used to reduce the amount of ice on the roads but each has its advantages and disadvantages.
