Discussion/Conclusion:

The purpose of this lab was to determine the concentration of a barium hydroxide solution using conductivity and a titration method. Barium hydroxide was titrated with sulfuric acid and the equivalence point was determined with a conductometric method. The equivalence point was reached when the conductivity was at its minimum. Using the equivalence point, the concentration of the barium hydroxide was found. In the first trial, the equivalence point was reached at 9.557 mL, which yielded a concentration of 0.00382 M barium hydroxide solution. In the second trial, the equivalence point was reached at 9.423 mL, which yielded a concentration of 0.00377 M barium hydroxide solution. The average of these two solutions is 0.00380 M. A source of error could have been from the titration jars being contaminated due to improper cleaning. In future labs to ensure accurate and precise results, the number of trials should be increased.
