The purpose of this lab was to identify the anions present in a mixture of solutions using qualitative analysis.
Anion anylisis is similar to cation analysis because separations are not usually required. In the experiment we analyzed 4 solutions with common anions:
(PO4)3- (Phosphate)
Cl- (Chloride)
(SO4)2- (Sulfate)
NO3- (Nitrate)
We performed the experiment with the four common anions, while ensuring that complete separation and precipitation occurred. Otherwise, the unreacted ions may interfere with the following reactions.
