The purpose of the lab was to determine the concentration of colorful solutions. In this lab, five solutions of Copper (II) Sulfate each of differing concentration were tested for absorbance using the GLX data collection system. Each of the five gave distinct levels of absorbance. A calibration curve was constructed to show the concentration vs absorbance and also to determine the concentration of a CuSO4 solution. For this experiment the transmitted light intensity depends of the path length of the solution meaning that the shorter the cell path the higher the intensity of the light and vice-versa.

Some sources of error in this experiment included not cleaning the cuvette with the solutions prior to placing it on the spectrometer. Another error may have occurred by not reseting the spectrometer with distilled water after each trial. One of the most noticeable errors that were committed in the experiment were that the solutions were not mixed throughly so that the absorbance may have been off.
